Much of the old way of hunting, defending, and warring have been lost as modern equipment and technology bring us new and seemingly better ways to get the job done. Today, many  hunters hunt using a rifle or shotgun. Home defense, and other types of personal defense are accomplished with a handgun rather than a bow.

Lars Andersen and His Dedication to Archery

The video shows and discusses how Lars Andersen has reached into the past to bring bout the recovery of the skills of master archers from the past. In so doing, Lars Andersen undoes some of the pop cultures that depicts archery in venues such as movies. One of the things that he discovers is that the position of the arrow on the bow becomes critical to the speed by which arrows can be fired. That little point is critical in combat or for hunting.

Some of Archery’s History

Back in the day, there were no grocery stores. Many poor people and those responsible for supplying lords and castles did so by hunting. Accurate hunters ate well. Those who did not, went hungry. That is the way life was back in the day. To that end, archery became an important part of survival. For those who were archers in the ranks the importance of being highly skilled meant living or dying. It takes a good while to train good archers.

The skill of good archers on the battlefield was immeasurable because at that time they possessed the only long range weapon that offered a repeatable fire option. They could take out enemies at a variety of distances and as it shows in the video even be effective at close range. Lars Andersen makes a good case for why archery is underrated in today’s world. It is because we no longer understand the art of archery at least not on the level that is displayed in the video.

What Lars Andersen demonstrates is rather incredible. It comes from the passion that he has for this sport though “sport” may not be the right word — perhaps passion. He has taken the time to uncover from the past what it takes to become a master archer. Unraveling the hidden clues, disputing popular methods, and even discovering the reasons why what we know about archery is mostly wrong. In the video, it discusses the use of a quiver. It also shows why a quiver is not practical in many types of terrain nor every situation.

What Lars Andersen Has Returned to the Art of Archery:

  • The thrill of the sport.
  • The position of the arrow on the right side of the bow rather than the left.
  • The need to hold the arrows in your shooting hand that improves speed of shots fired.
  • The correction regarding the use of a back-mounted quiver.

In the video, Lars Andersen demonstrates the amazing skill that a master archery brings to the craft of archery. Not only does he shoot arrows out of the air, but also catches arrows fired at him and re-shoots them in the blink of an eye. In addition, he manages to shoot incoming arrows so that the shaft of missile splits into two parts. He takes you through different terrain that range from wooded glens to vertical and upside down positions from which he fires with deadly accuracy.

After watching this video of unbelievable archery skills, how many of you readers would consider taking up the art of archery?
